The 5 Canons of Rhetoric (dialect/the process of)
-invention (invetio)
-arrangement (disopitio)
-style (elucutio)
-delivery (pronunciato actio)
-memory (memoria)
Rhetoric used be what made you an excellent citizen. Imagine if everyone were excellent orators, who could expound on intelligent thoughts and opinion, and all defend themselves in front of society.
Kinda scary actually, maybe it's a not so good, and not such a bad thing that not everyone is skilled in rhetoric. Like Plato (I THINK) thought, teaching Rhetoric was like handing everyone a weapon that could destroy civilization. Perfect example: Hitler. He was good at talking and he was extremely persuasive. (Apparently) Persuasion is the most important part of rhetoric. It can't just be about words. You can list off facts and drone on all day, but to persuade someone into thinking you are completely sure of what you're saying, what you're trying to tell them, that is what it's all about.
This is basically just helping me study, but I had too much going on in my head so I wrote it down. I didn't have much of anything else to post that was interesting. Sorry People. I think this is interesting. My next post will most likely be on Sociology.
